Like a lot of people my age, I grew up in love with Sam Raimi and the Evil Dead films. They are among some of my favorite horror movies and a bloody good time. I have yet to dive into this modern world of Evil Dead films.

The 2013 Evil Dead film looked visually impressive, but felt too dark for my tastes these days. I tried to give Evil Dead Rise a chance, but found myself turning it off early on. Didn’t really feel like Evil Dead to me.

And here we now have a teaser for another new Evil Dead movie, Evil Dead Burn. While this single, long shot gives us only a glimpse of what is to come, I have to admit I am actually really intrigued and impressed. Check it out below.

What do you think? I am hopeful there is something interesting here. And maybe I’ll go back and give Evil Dead Rise and the 2013 film another chance.

  1. Well, this is a great teaser!
I had a similar experience. Enjoyed the series in the 80s but was not eager to jump into the modern era based on the trailers. Last year I finally sat down and watched the remake and all the new ones, and even though they have a different vibe and only loosely connect to the originals, I had a good time. I’m excited about this one.

I will admit, I used to be a big horror fan in my teens, but I kind of grew out of it, so now I’m more selective and picky about it. It has to be well made and have some substance at least, not just a common gorefest. If it has a comedic spin, I like that as well.

    1. I had the exact same experience. Really took a long break from horror movies and only now selectively watching some here and there. My only problem with the modern Evil Dead movies is, from what I’ve seen, they are mean spirited. Raimi’s trilogy have some dark stuff in ithem but it’s all tongue and cheek. It makes you laugh. Don’t get that vibe from the new ones.

      1. You just have to give it a try.
I do agree the vibe is very different. In a sense it’s updated with the modern era sensibilities. 70s filmmaking style is special for many reasons and I was way too young to understand it but I did feel it and that feeling stayed with me. Also when I used to listen my parent’s music albums on cassettes (we are only 22 years apart). There’s just something raw about that era.

      2. Yeah, you’re right. I just need to give it a try. I think I’m finally reaching the age where I know if I am pushing back against something, it’s because I’ll probably like it. At least that tends to my pattern recently. “I hate it.” One week later. “Now I get it. So great.” lol

      3. Exactly!
BTW unrelated, but I’ve recently watched Blade of the Immortal (2019 anime series) and was blown away. Now I’m looking into other stuff from the same anime creator.

      4. Nice! I’ve had that on my list for many years, but never given it a watch. I love when I find something I really like and have a whole new rabbit hole to do down with an artist. Let me know if you find any related good ones.
