Check out the newly released anime feature film trailer for ‘Peleliu: Guernica of Paradise’ based on Kazuyoshi Takeda’s acclaimed anti-war manga.
Set during World War II and focusing on the Battle of Peleliu, the film follows the story of Tamaru, a young Japanese soldier who dreams of becoming a manga artist. Tamaru is deployed to Peleliu Island where he one of 10,000 Japanese soldiers that must fight an incoming force of 40,000 U.S. troops.
This is a gonna be a rough one. There is something so impactful about seeing war play out in a tropical setting. The contrast of beauty and horror.
I love the visual style of the manga brought to life. It reminds me of ‘Girl’s Last Tour.’ I am not that manga style savvy, so I’m sure that there is a name for it. If anyone knows, please leave me a comment.

‘Peleliu: Guernica of Paradise’ is directed by Goro Kuji with music by the legendary Kenji Kawai and looks to hit theaters in Japan in December.
Based on the subject matter, I imagine we won’t get a theatrical release here in the United States which is a real shame. We’re long overdue for this sort of thing. Maybe I’m wrong and some brave distributor will take a chance.
