Here is another TIFF 2026 trailer that has my attention!

Check out the creeping environmental folk horror happenings in this trailer for Iranian Kurdish auteur director Bahman Ghobadi‘s Trees Are Watching (2026) starring Eva Green, Murat Yildirim, and Lucas Akoskin.

Trees Are Watching is told in both English and Turkish and was shot in Istanbul, though the story is set in Mardin, an ancient stone city near the Syrian border — a location choice I already love.

Born in 1969 in Baneh, a city near the Iraq border, director Bahman Ghobadi got his start assisting Abbas Kiarostami on The Wind Will Carry Us. On top of that, his first film, A Time for Drunken Horses (2000),won the Caméra d’Or at Cannes and apparently was the first major feature in the Kurdish language. Need I say more?

Trees Are Watching is one to watch out for. No release date has been set.
