Cinematic Point Of View

When I was in high school, there was no internet. We had dial-up forums called Bulletin Board Systems or BBS. This was soon followed by the mainstream version called America Online (AOL). I lived for these things. I remember well the joy and excitement of buying my first 2400 baud modem and connecting to a BBS on my Apple IIe. This was usually followed by the great frustration of someone in the house picking up the phone and killing the connection, but it was worth it. Sure, it was simple, but it was a first step out into the unknown and unexplored world of the yet-to-be-branded “cyberspace.”

I remember when William Gibson released his book Neuromancer in 1984. I was too young to read it at the time, but when I finally was able to get my hands on a copy, I did. And then, I couldn’t get into it. I was crushed. It was beyond my mental capacity, perhaps. Maybe it still is. I love the idea of what he wrote, but I’ve never been able to get into the prose.

That said, I am extremely excited to check out the new Apple TV+ adaptation of the beloved cyberpunk novel, Neuromancer, starring Callum Turner and Peter Sarsgaard. Hopefully, it will remain true to the book as much as it can, and I can finally experience the story. Check out the trailer below.
