Man this makes me so happy. It’s been a long time since I really cared about an Academy Award nomination! Probably going all the way back to Good Will Hunting.

Godzilla Minus One” is the first film in Godzilla’s 70-year franchise history to win or be nominated for an Oscar. What a Cinderella story!

35 VFX people working on 610 shots for 8 months. Astounding. And while there has been no official confirmation of budget, it doesn’t really matter. They did so much with far less than ordinary.

Director Takashi Yamazaki’s Oscar acceptance speech.

Congratulations to Takashi Yamazaki and the entire Godzilla Minus One team for their ‘Best Visual Effects’ Oscar win! So very well deserved!

  1. wow, that has got to be a rare moment for a Godzilla movie to win an Oscar. Definitely makes me want to watch this one. OK, was gonna watch it anyway, but now maybe sooner, lol. I have seen them all. 🙂

      1. Do you know when it’s supposed to start streaming? A quick search gave me no good answers.

      2. I’ve found no US streaming or Blu Ray released dates yet. Japanese Blu Ray hits May 1st. I would imagine US dates will release soon. I’ll likely make a post about it as I am pretty anxious to see it again.

    1. Yes, me too!! Couldn’t have happened to a nicer group of people or a better film! I will say though, any other year without Godzilla Minus One in the mix and Gareth Edwards’ team gets it for The Creator.

  3. That’s awesome news. I haven’t seen it yet but will definitely look for it. We’ve seen all the Godzilla movies so far. Can’t leave the best one out.

    1. Haha what kind of movies does she like? This movie is really character driven so if that’s her thing she should love it. And the Godzilla scenes are next level and pack a punch like no other. She might be surprised.

      1. I gave up on predicting what kind of movie she might like after she wandered in one time while I was watching “Pitch Black”, stuck around, and loved it. 😂 If “Godzilla Minus One” has good characters, then you may well be right!
