Do you ever hear people talk about how “they just don’t make any good movies anymore?” I do and I always shake my head in disbelief. There are more good looking films out there than ever before. More films than I could possibly ever find time to watch!
Case in point. Check out the trailer for ‘Blue Heron’ (2026). It’s the story of a family who has immigrated from Hungary to Vancouver Island and must grapple with the struggles and traumas of their past, as well as, their oldest child’s severe mental health issues.
‘Blue Heron’ is the feature film debut for director Sophy Romvari and is based in part on her own childhood. She first explored this story of childhood trauma in a short film called “Still Processing.” I was unable to find that film, but here is a trailer for it.
Distributed by Janus Films, ‘Blue Heron’ looks to be getting a limited theatrical run in the United States starting April 16, 2026.
Really hoping this one plays in my town.
