Have you seen the eerie trailer for ‘Rose of Nevada,’ the new film, starring George MacKay and Callum Turner, from Mark Jenkin, the director of ‘Enys Men?’ It’s the tale of two down on their luck fishermen who join the crew of a boat and return to find they have been transported back in time and mistaken for men who disappeared years before.
Shot on 16mm, ‘Rose of Nevada’ really looks and feels like some of those old educational films we’d watch in high school. Very dreamlike.
Our history teacher, who was also the basketball coach, would roll out the 16mm projector and spend 15 minutes trying to get the reel on. There was always something strange and haunting about those movies, no matter if it was a film about the French revolution or urban pollution.
Judging from the trailer, Mark Jenkin has certainly created something unique. George MacKay is always great and I’m interested in seeing Callum Turner in a serious role. Looking forward to checking this one out.
I am curious what other people thought of ‘Enys Man.’ Leave me a comment if you wanna share your perspective.
