Holy cow! I can’t believe that they got Kore-eda Hirokazu to direct the live-action adaptation of Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto‘s amazing short manga ‘Look Back.’ Check out the super teaser trailer below.

I have not read the manga, but I did watch the short anime and it’s one of the best from this year. In a nutshell, it’s a coming-of-age story about two young girls who come together over their shared love of drawing manga and experience a great tragedy.

To see these characters portrayed in real life really brings the impending tragedy into full focus. I’ve read that the story itself was inspired by the Kyoto Animation arson attack in 2019.

This is gonna be a tough one to watch.

It’s a relief that that they have director Kore-eda Hirokazu at the helm. Check out the short video below with personal comments from Kore-eda Hirokazu about how he discovered the manga and how he came to direct ‘Look Back‘.

To me, he’s one of the modern day masters of filmmaking. If you’ve ever seen his film ‘Nobody Knows‘ or ‘Monster’ then you know the story is in great hands.
