The other day at lunch, my youngest son brought up Rebecca Sugar, the creator of ‘Steven Universe.’ He was telling me she had a YouTube channel and still posts on it pretty regular. We’re big ‘Steven Universe’ fans.
We wondered if she was working on anything new outside of ‘Steven Universe.’ We looked it up on her IMDB page and didn’t really see anything.
A few days later this article from Variety popped up in my newsfeed.
‘Steven Universe’ Creator Rebecca Sugar Set for Animated Feature From Annapurna, Moomin Characters’
I love when the Universe delivers.
It looks like ‘The Moomins‘ are about to get the big screen treatment under the care of Rebecca Sugar. Annapurna Animation and Moomin Characters are teaming up for the first U.S. produced Moomin film, bringing Finnish-Swedish author and artist Tove Jansson’s gentle, odd, and super comforting characters to life in a whole new way.
In case you are unfamiliar with ‘The Moomins,’ they are family of round, hippo-like creatures who live in a peaceful valley called Moominvalley. The books are are a gentle blend of fantasy, philosophy, and social satire.
Pretty excited about this creative pairing. It seems like the perfect fit for Sugar.
