Great news! Godzilla Minus One writer/director Takashi Yamazaki begins work on his next Godzilla movie August 30, 2025, in Tsukubamirai City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and they’re casting extras! This new Godzilla film looks to be a direct sequel to Godzilla Minus One, which makes the news even sweeter.

The Japanese extras casting call can be found on Takashi Yamazaki’s website and reads (translated to English from Japanese):

Toho’s latest film, “Masterpiece Monster Movie (tentative title)” has finally begun production!

The director, scriptwriter, and VFX creator is Takashi Yamazaki, a leading figure in visual expression and VFX that makes full use of advanced CG visuals. He has worked on many hit films, including “The Great War of Archimedes,” “Eternal Zero,” and the “Always: Sunset on Third Street” series. His latest film, “Godzilla 1.0,” was the first Asian film to win the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards, and has also achieved many other great feats, winning over 50 top awards both domestically and internationally.

Please look forward to the latest “Blockbuster Monster Movie (tentative title),” in which Director Takashi Yamazaki takes on the challenge with a cast of some of Japan’s most impressive actors.

We are currently recruiting volunteer extras to help create this film!

We will be providing original commemorative items (not for sale) and look forward to receiving your applications.

I love that the working title used in the casting call is “Blockbuster Monster Movie” or “Masterpiece Monster Movie.” I feel certain that if anyone is up to the task of creating another blockbuster masterpiece Godzilla movie, Yamazaki is the only man for the job.

Oh how I’d give almost anything to be an extra in this film or just hang out on set. Godzilla Minus One is one of my favorite films of all time. To have any role in a Godzilla production would be a dream come true.

What else is known about the new film? Not much except it seems likely there will new monsters added to the mix. Looks like there isn’t a solid release date set yet, but I have seen late 2026 mentioned. I can’t wait!

What monsters do you think might make an appearance in the Godzilla Minus One sequel?

    1. Looks like if you go to this page https://yamazakimovie-extra.jp/ and scroll down you can apply under “Application Requirements.” I also removed your phone number from the public. Probably not a good idea. Best of luck!
