Here we go! Feast your eyes on the first Official Trailer for James Gunn’s Superman.

What do you think?

I’m super pumped for this one. Really trying to keep my expectations low, but it’s getting harder to do that. In this trailer you start to the see scope and themes. The Gunn weirdness, which is refreshing, and of course the comfort of Kyrpto. Also, part of that weirdness which works for me.

There is also something about the casting of Lois and Clark that makes them feel much more down to Earth, so to speak, than it has been for some time. Even though it looks as though the heart of the film has him at conflict with society, he also seems to be more a man of the people, which is nice.

I’m hopeful and I’m excited for Superman to be uplifting again. Fingers crossed.

  1. I just left my first impression in a comment on a different blog post, but it fits better here. 😉

I was very skeptical, but I tried to stay hopeful, because it’s Gunn. This trailer made a big impression on me. Rarely a trailer makes me feel like, ok, here’s a director who knows what he’s doing. He knows the comics, the universe, and the character, what came before (all the versions and variations in various forms and media). I can’t say I love this version, but I like it and I’m giving it a chance to grow on me, because like Andor, it looks like the writing is impeccable. It’s serious and bright, but does not look ridiculous, which is its achievement. It seems it will have dark moments, but not like Nolan’s Batman (which I adore, but the same tone does not fit Superman). I was not sure if I’d like the actor, but he pulled it off, because he’s different than all the rest. He’s likeable, but not in a macho way, like Henry Cavill, more like Christopher Reeve. It’s very hard what Gunn is trying to do, and it looks like he’s gonna knock it out of the park!

  2. I’m going to give it a shot when it comes to MAX (I haven’t gone to a movie theater in years mainly because I work at night and am not near one like I was at my previous job where I didn’t work at night).
