I am currently watching the 1999 anime Dai-Guard and am loving it. I guess I have a thing for light-hearted giant robot office dramas. I’ll likely do a write up on it once I am finished with the series.

In the meantime, enjoy this beautifully melancholic track from the Dai-Guard soundtrack called “AD2018” by Japanese composer, conductor, and singer-songwriter Kohei Tanaka. His work on the soundtrack, along with the renowned Kenji Kawai, help make Dai-Guard something truly special.

For a little background on Tanaka, his career began in the early 80s with a song for the anime Arcadia of My Youth: Endless Orbit SSX. He got this job while working as a lounge pianist. Pretty awesome. I’d love to see the story of how that unfolded.

He then found some recognition while working on the 1988 anime Gunbuster, which seemingly launched his career.

If his name is familiar, it’s likely because he is also well-known as a composer for the anime series One Piece.

His body of work is impressive to say the least. Do you know Dai-Guard or it’s music? I would love to hear your perspective.
