He was my favorite student at the tribal academy. I know, I know. They say a teacher shouldn’t play favorites. It happens. I’m Orc so, you know, forgive me. Marlowe was a special kid. Always on time. First in line for every hunt. Kept a filthy barrack and bed. Even crafted his own rusty blade. Star pupil. Abandoned from birth, Marlowe had something to prove to himself. And always a smile. That goofy toothy smile. He was ridiculed for that. Other Orcs hated it. Thought he was making fun of them. They couldn’t understand though. It was just who he was.

On this little, green Orc ink and watercolor I learned that all ink’s are not created equal. I messed up the eyes and the mouth at first. The ink ran when I used watercolor. I went back to my new favorite trick and drew new eyes and teeth, inked them, cut them out, and pasted them on. I also let fear get the best of me. Once I got Marlowe to a place I was happy with, I wondered if I should draw a background. Place him somewhere. I chickened out this time, but that’s okay.
Show your work. Tell the tale. The process is the point.
Do you make art? I’d love to see it. Share a link in the comments.
