Check out the trailer for the 2024 South African drama Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight, the new film by actress and first time director Embeth Davidtz.
Depicts 8-year-old Bobo’s life on her family’s Rhodesian farm during the Bush War’s final stages. It explores the family’s bond with Africa’s land and the war’s impact on the region and individuals through Bobo’s perspective.
The film is based on a memoir of the same name by Alexandra Fuller which recounts her childhood growing up in Zimbabwe during the 1970s and 1980s and explores themes of family, survival, and the complexities of life in a post-colonial African country.
I am absolutely going to try and read this before the film is released. Any first hand accounts that explore the effects of war through a child’s eyes is worth paying attention to.
Really looking forward to this one.
