I can’t wait to dig into this beautiful, new edition of the 1975 Shonen horror classic “Mansect“, by manga master Koga Shinichi.

Humans grow and age. They change. But always we are the same person, the same creature. Not so with insects, whose powers of metamorphosis alter not only their shape and size, but also their very beings. And now, because of one young man’s unhealthy obsession with bugs, humans also find themselves transformed into disgusting, decrepit, bloodsucking insect monsters!

Shinichi is a manga artist known for his contribution to horror manga in the 70s, often leaning into body horror. His detailed linework and stark contrasts help give his art style a creepy atmosphere you won’t soon forget. It’s truly beautiful and macabre!

Speaking of unforgettable, I’d wager that any book you can find that’s edited or translated into English by Ryan Holmberg is worth picking up. To me, he’s consistently involved in some of the best and most interesting work out there. Look for his name when you’re looking for something new.

I also want to say thank you to the brilliant Living the Line Publishing for the great work they do promoting and bringing lesser seen work into the light. They are awesome.

By the way, this is not a paid promotion or anything. The folks at Living The Line have an awesome YouTube channel where they review graphic novels and produce their own. The work they highlight, and just their general vibe, has been a been a big inspiration for me over the past several years. It’s guided me back into reading and collecting graphic novels and manga, along with, drawing and making my own art.

Who are some of the artists and publishers that inspire you? I’m always on the lookout for a new rabbit hole to explore.
