I was shocked to find that Akira Kurosawa‘s Stray Dog had never been released on Blu-Ray until a few days ago! Thank you BFI for finally giving this masterpiece the long overdue Blu-Ray release it deserves.

In case you’ve never heard of it, Stray Dog tells the story of a rookie homicide detective (Toshirô Mifune) who has his gun stolen and has to track down in the illegal gun market of underground Tokyo. It’s beautiful film noir and edgy police thriller all rolled into one!

Blu-Ray extras include:
- Presented in High Definition
- Newly recorded interview with Japanese film expert Jasper Sharp
- Newly recorded audio commentary by Kenta McGrath
- Akira Kurosawa: It is Wonderful to Create – Stray Dog (2002, 32 mins)
- **FIRST PRESSING ONLY** Illustrated booklet with new writing on the film by Barry Forshaw, archive essay by Philip Kemp and original review
