I thought that Season 3 of the The Umbrella Academy was a great place to end the series. It was big. It felt upbeat and open-ended, which I like. The future for them could be anything! Not over, just unknown.

When I heard they were making one more season, I wasn’t thrilled. After watching Season 4, I have to say it’s not he best season by a long shot, but it’s also not the worst. I enjoyed it about as much as any other season.

At only 6 episodes, I consider it a bonus season. I won’t go into too many details about plot except to say that it’s been a while for the gang. They’ve spent time apart without their powers and have learned to adjust to ordinary life in the world, some better than others. Dark forces are once again working to destroy the world and once again the family has to get back together to save the day and work out their personal issues. It’s a road trip family reunion.

Sure it was clearly tacked on as an afterthought with bits sprinkled in the makers new were crowd pleasing moments, but it was just as funny, fun, dark, sad, personal, and playful as the other seasons. Great soundtrack too! It was a great show to watch in the morning before work while I drink my coffee.

I’ll really miss this series. It always makes me feel good. It’s like spending time with your own dysfunctional family, having a laugh, and remembering why you love them even if they frustrate you sometimes.
I really hope they spin this series off. I’ll miss all of their messy, charming, ridiculously messed up lives in my own life.
