I ran across this trailer for Tsuguzo Murase’s film Kaminofude: The Island of Monsters today. Decided to explore the film’s website a bit and I sure am glad I did!
I have to admit I am not as well versed on all the people who work behind the scenes on some of my favorite kaiju movies so it was good to learn something new today.

According the film’s website, Tsuguzo Murase is a bit of a legend in the industry, having worked on so many sculptures for so many legendary kaiju such as “Godzilla,” “Gamera,” and “Daimajin.” This new movie is Murase’s first time taking the reigns as director. Even cooler, this movie is based on a story he wrote back in 1970 for the Shaw Brothers!
The monster that appears in this film was designed by Shinji Nishikawa, known as the designer of the Godzilla series. As if that wasn’t enough, the the film also brings together a ton of special effects staff from the Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa eras!

Lots of people with love and experience for the industry put their fingerprints on this film. It was a great old school, analog feel from what I can see in the trailer. Hopefully we’ll at least get some sort of release on digital over here in the US.
