Check out the official trailer for ‘Alien: Romulus!’

The synopsis reads “While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

We are clearly treading familiar territory here but that’s just fine by me. The visuals looks fantastic. The aliens looks like the aliens we all know and love. The majority of the cast is younger than your standard Alien fare but based on this glimpse they seems capable.

My only fear is that they try and mimic too many scenes from other Alien films as nostalgic callbacks. I see some in the trailer. Hopefully the rest of the film stands on it’s own original imagery.

The film stars Cailee Spaeny (“Civil War”), David Jonsson (“Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy”), Archie Renaux (“Shadow and Bone”), Isabela Merced (“The Last of Us”), Spike Fearn (“Aftersun”), Aileen Wu.

The director is Fede Alvarez who did the ‘Evil Dead’ remake several years ago. To be honest, I never did make it through that thing as it was just so damn brutal. Wasn’t in the mood. I like my ‘Evil Dead’ a bit more campy. I can imagine his directorial style will work well in the Alien world though. Ridley Scott is back producing.

So what do you think? Does it have a chance at ranking up there with the first two Alien films? Going to keep my expectations low and hope for the best.
