Totto-Chan: The Little Girl At The Window tells the story of a little girl going to school at a new special school after she doesn’t fit in at her original elementary school. This unusual school had old railroad cars for classrooms, and it is run by an extraordinary man-its founder and headmaster, Sosaku Kobayashi–who is a firm believer in freedom of expression and activity.
Once there, she meets a variety of interesting and unique students and learns many new things, even as Japan descends into World War II.

This animated film is based on a best selling autobiography by one of Japan’s most popular television personalities, Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. I know nothing of her or the book but it all sounds really interesting and inspiring. Looking forward to watching this one and possibly dipping into the book as well.
