‘Slow Horses’ Season 2 TV Review: Effortless and always interesting spy thriller

Quick review. Slow Horses season 2. This show makes it all look so easy I kinda forgot about it after season 1. Really, really great series based on a series of books by Mick Herron about a group of washed up or troubled British spies who get placed in a run down office called Slough House. This is where careers go to die.

Gary Oldman, Kristen Scott Thomas, and Jack Lowdon are supported by a small, well cast ensemble of characters with interesting stories that unfold along each season’s mystery. There is a lot I love about this show. Gary Oldman for starters. I think this is the perfect role for the rest of his career. A smart, tired, grumpy, alcoholic, old spy who leads not by example.

The pacing at most times is pretty slice of life. Leisurely really. Then things start ramping up. I have not read the books but it feels like a good book when you’re watching it. There is a ton of sarcastic, bitter, banter which sometimes puts me off in a show, but it works here as you get to know each person and it isn’t just lip flapping for no good reason.

Anyway, if I write any more then this stops being a quick review. A+ television on AppleTV+.

PS – also the Mick Jagger opening theme is so good!
